Matar chicken Salan

Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg Chicken
  • 1/2 cup Oil
  • 1 Onion sliced
  • Tomato 1 large or 2 small
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Green chili paste or to taste
  • 1/2 cup Yogurt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

Garnishing

  • Green chillies
  • Cilantro
  • Garam masala as required
  • Lemon as needed

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pot over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Add sliced onions and sauté until they change color.
  • Add cumin seeds and black pepper, sauté for another minute.
  • Add chicken and cook until it changes color.
  • Stir in ginger garlic paste and continue cooking.
  • Add spices and cook on high heat for a couple of minutes (bhunofy).
  • Blend tomatoes and yogurt together, then add to the chicken mixture.
  • Cook (bhunofy) for 5-6 minutes, adding a splash of water if needed.
  • Add peas and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes.
  • Pour in hot water, cover, and cook until the chicken is fully cooked through and peas are softened.
  • Adjust the consistency of the salan to your liking.
  • Finally, add green chilies and cilantro, sprinkle with garam masala, and enjoy!
