Heat oil in a pot over medium-high heat until hot.
Add sliced onions and sauté until they change color.
Add cumin seeds and black pepper, sauté for another minute.
Add chicken and cook until it changes color.
Stir in ginger garlic paste and continue cooking.
Add spices and cook on high heat for a couple of minutes (bhunofy).
Blend tomatoes and yogurt together, then add to the chicken mixture.
Cook (bhunofy) for 5-6 minutes, adding a splash of water if needed.
Add peas and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes.
Pour in hot water, cover, and cook until the chicken is fully cooked through and peas are softened.
Adjust the consistency of the salan to your liking.
Finally, add green chilies and cilantro, sprinkle with garam masala, and enjoy!
